Local Area Coordination:

I was spending lots of time at home, doing nothing and I was really fed up. One day, I picked up a leaflet in my GP Surgery for Local Area Coordination. It took a lot of courage for me to get in touch, but Jane was so friendly. I felt at ease straight away. Jane spent a lot of time chatting to me and I have told her all about the things I used to love doing. Now I have started a part time college course in my local community centre and if I do well, I am thinking about enrolling at college on a bakery course next year - with Jane’s support of course!”

Inspire has run Aberdeen City’s Local Area Coordination scheme since January 2005. The scheme aims to act as a sign post service for individuals with learning disabilities and their families & carers, and helps them to access mainstream services and information resources which best articulate the aspirations and dreams of the individual.

Inspire creates partnerships between the individual, families & carers, communities, governments, service providers, and the business sector to best suit the needs of people with learning disabilities.
